Dodleston Route

I have plotted a route out to Dodleston, trying to avoid busy main roads.  If you start the other side of town, say at the Roodee, then this will make for a shorter ride.

Starting at Upton Library, we head for the greenway behind New Scene Youth Club in Newton, turning right and heading towards town.

Leaving the cycleway before Liverpool road, and following the road to turn left over the railway bridge, and taking the short sharp drop between Liverpool and Parkgate roads.  This used to be a tramway, in the days when Chester had trams!

We aim for the canal and along to pick up the riverside track, as far as Saltney Ferry.  Cross the river, and keep left to follow the river back on the other bank.

When you enter the celeubrious surroundings of Saltney industrial estate, head left to go uder the railway and straight on to the lights.  Cross the main Saltney road, and follow through the housing estate to the end, then head left and right to follow boundary lane.  Cross the railway again at the level crossing, and keep left to pass the donkey sanctuary on your right.

At this point it is one road to and from Dodleston.  Head right out of town, and keep right at the roundabout. cross the railway (again!) and turn left for Dodleston.

Now, there is definately a back way into the park off Penfold way, but I can't remember it sat here at my computer!  so carry on until you pass the Red Lion, and bear left at the sharp bend - to head to the Church. on the left is a groovy playground, and picnic benches.  You have already passed the pub!

Head back the same way, until you get to the Donkey Sanctuary junction, then stay on Lache Lane heading into town.  Take the right into Rowcliffe follow this until you pass the shops.  Then it gets tricky to describe - but if you follow your nose and cat get through to Vincent Drive, then take the fourth right and this will lead you to the cyclepath on the Wrexham Road.

Follow left towards town and cross at the crossing, heading into Dukes Drive and Handbridge.  Crossing the river on the suspension bridge, we follow along the river - nmaybe chance for an ice cream? - and up (biggest hill of the ride!) to Boughton.  ross at the lights, and go down street opposite to pick up canal, and go left, leaving the canal at the next bridge and crossing the canal right.

Then we can head to the lights at the bottom of Hoole Bridge, and go straight over, negotiating Northgate Arena car park to Northgate village and through to the cycleway.  We then retrace back to Upton Library.

Simples!

(if I take some photos on Sunday, I can post them here!)
